Minasyan had the idea of creating a domain registrar in 2015, after realizing that many of the current domain providers are not well-optimized and lack user friendliness.
“We have created name.am with the idea that it can become a global leader in the sphere of domain registration and management,” Minasyan said. “We had an interface which could easily compete with top-tier companies worldwide.”
That said, Minasyan mentioned that after discussing the idea of making name.am a global brand with different Armenian entrepreneurs, he realized that a website with a domain “.am” cannot succeed on the international market. This is when Minasyan and his team decided to start an entirely new project called DomainDesk.
Name.am is a rapidly growing domain registrar founded in 2017 by Mesrop Minasyan. The company’s primary objective is to make website domain names more accessible to the Armenian market.

The Future of Domain Management

DomainDesk.com is an ongoing project of the name.am team.
“This is the first time I mention DomainDesk publicly,” said Minasyan. “We have been working on it for almost a year and I think it is time to talk about it.”
Minasyan stated that DomainDesk is a platform for domain management rather than a domain registrar. After gaining experience with different users throughout 5 years of managing name.am, Minasyan and his team understood what functions need improvement.
Aiming towards the global market, DomainDesk promises to deliver a fresh experience to the table, which could potentially change the way people manage their domains.
“There are many domain registrars around the world, but the majority of them lack a good user interface,” Minasyan said. “It is hard for a person to manage their domains, and DomainDesk plans to solve that issue.”
"The IT sphere has a great potential in Armenia,” Minasyan said. “That’s why we all need to encourage young IT enthusiasts, as Armenia doesn’t have much natural resources and that fact needs to be compensated somehow.”
Name.am, for example, helps web developers by giving away “.հայ” domains for free for an entire year. As Minasyan stated, many people get interested in programming at a very young age, and many of them “don’t have 10,000 drams to spend on a domain” just for learning purposes. This is another reason why name.am is regarded as a revolutionary company in its sphere.
Aside from that, name.am has internship opportunities making them open for talented programmers who are just starting their career.
Samvel Avagyan, one of the interns at name.am, said that he chose this company because he shares its vision.

“After coming back from the army I had a hard time finding a fitting job,” he said. “Name.am gave me the opportunity to learn from the best and work in a sphere I am interested in.”
Even as an intern, Avagyan actively participates in the development of DomainDesk and other company activities. He mentioned that the warm atmosphere and regular parties organized by the company CEO Mesrop Minasyan help him to work, study and grow professionally in a welcoming and relaxing environment.

DomainDesk allows its users to connect third-party plugins, chat with other domain owners and trade easily. This is only a fraction of the functions of the website, as “it has everything a domain owner needs (and even more) in one place.”
“The two most important parts of a good website are good customer support and user-friendly interface,” said Minasyan. “If you have these two things, your clients will keep coming back for more.” Minasyan added that great and intuitive UI is a priority for the company, and their customer support staff is hand-picked.

EIP is a 10-day intensive program both in Los Angeles and San Francisco training the Armenian early-stage startup entrepreneurs according to Silicon Valley standards. The participants will receive intense mentorship from the industry professionals helping with growth hacking and cross-border sales and perfecting their pitch decks. Participants visit the local tech giants such as Facebook, Google and Draper University, as well as famous accelerators such as Y Combinator and 500 Global. At the end of the program during the Demo Day, the participants pitch in front of the Silicon Valley investors and culminate their 10-day journey. The startup founders get precious skills and networks they utilize to improve their businesses in Armenia and eventually extend to the US. The founding organizer of EIP is HyeTech, a network of “High Tech” Armenian professionals around the Southern California region. Fundraising is done by accumulating money from the big Armenian companies willing to invest in the tech scene of Armenia. The mentors are among the biggest seasonal experts. Upon the program, the participants are provided with visa and residence aid for the time of the program.
Since 2017, the Armenian startup ecosystem has recorded an astounding boom. In 2016, HyeTech held the first batch of Entrepreneurship Immersion Program(EIP) designed to expose Armenian entrepreneurs to the Silicon Valley ecosystem and business standards.
Unveiling the Opportunities for
Hidden Stars of the Armenian Tech Scene
The first batch of EIP in 2016 was one of its kind. It attracted the early-stage startups that would highly scale later on. EarlyOne was among them, a queue management app now serving over 45 companies worldwide including the leading financial institutions of Armenia. Another EIP alumnus is CoinStats, a cryptocurrency wallet integrated with top cryptocurrency portfolio companies like Binance. Over the six years, Coinstats managed to grow a lot: they have over 15 million users and recently they managed to close a seed round of funding. Another alumnus with significant achievements is UCRAFT, a user-friendly platform to create websites without the knowledge of coding or UX/UI. They managed to partner with Google cloud and gained 360000 trusted users worldwide.
The success of the first batch led to the organization of the second batch of EIP in 2019 in 2019 bringing new stars to the table. At that time SmartGateVC joined the organizational team of EIP. The 2019 cohort came with a different and more interesting set of solutions. Karen Khachikyan, the CEO of the participating Expper Technologies, thinks participating in EIP was one of the main milestones of their company. He said, “EIP helped me not just achieve my goals, the most important that I got was better business thinking.” He also mentioned that the program showed the challenges they had and helped them holistically solve their issues developing a better business strategy. Expper Technologies provides AI-driven emotionally intelligent robots for enhancing pediatric care. Their invention Robin The Robot was recognized as one of the best inventions of 2021 by TIME magazine. Another participant, Yerem Khalatyan who is the CEO of LiveBoard, said that at the time, EIP helped them draw the most value out of the same resources they had. LiveBoard is a tool for tutors to visualize the learning material with over 1.6 million active users.
The next batch of EIP was scheduled to take place in 2020, yet got canceled due to the pandemic. The third batch of EIP is officially going to take place in July 2022.
EasyDMARC from the EIP 2019 batch has volunteered to fund the program. EIP is there to not only scale Armenian startups in the US and worldwide but also to sustain the Armenian startup ecosystem growth. It goes to our economy, to the Armenian talent recognition worldwide and to the Armenian tech sphere.
